A shocking development has unfolded in the aftermath of the Bihar election debacle, with Lalu Prasad's daughter, Rohini Acharya, making a bold move to distance herself from politics and her family. This announcement comes at a critical time, just a day after the Mahagathbandhan's devastating loss to the NDA, leaving the RJD with a mere 25 seats compared to their previous 75.
Rohini Acharya, a doctor by profession, had largely stayed away from active politics until recently. She chose to settle down as a homemaker with her husband in Singapore. In a mysterious post on X, she declared, "I am quitting politics and disowning my family." She took full responsibility, stating, "This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do."
The timing of her announcement is significant, as it coincides with the NDA's triumphant return to power in Bihar. Acharya's decision to speak out highlights the growing discord within the RJD's first family, which has become increasingly evident in recent months.
Last month, Acharya made headlines by unfollowing both Lalu and Tejashwi on X, a move interpreted as a sign of conflict within the family. This action followed her social media posts criticizing Sanjay Yadav's rising influence within the RJD.
In 2022, Acharya made news by donating a kidney to her father, Lalu, who underwent kidney treatment in Singapore. During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, she contested from the Saran constituency but lost to BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy by over 13,600 votes.
Speculation suggests Acharya's decision may be linked to the expulsion of her elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the RJD and the Lalu family earlier this year. However, she publicly supported Tejashwi during the election campaign. Despite these displays of unity, internal rifts within the Lalu family appear to have intensified.
RJD sources reveal that Acharya had ambitions to have a say in the selection of party candidates for Assembly seats under the Saran parliamentary constituency. She aimed to cultivate Saran with the intention of contesting again in the 2029 Lok Sabha polls, but her plans were reportedly thwarted by Tejashwi and Sanjay Yadav. With Lalu Prasad declining to intervene, Acharya left for Singapore, unfollowing all RJD leaders, including her father and brother, on social media.
Tensions within the RJD escalated ahead of the Assembly elections when Acharya reposted a message criticizing Sanjay's prominent position during Tejashwi's "Bihar Adhikar Yatra." The post suggested that the front seat in the yatra bus should have been reserved for either Lalu or Tejashwi, even in their absence. This led to public criticism of Rohini within the family, but she later clarified her stance, emphasizing the importance of social justice and Dalit representation.
Acharya's criticism of Sanjay also reflects a broader discontent within the RJD regarding his influence on shaping Tejashwi's political trajectory. Following his expulsion, Tej Pratap formed his own political party, Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), which contested the Assembly polls but failed to secure any seats.
This dramatic turn of events raises questions about the future of the RJD and the Lalu family's political dynasty. What do you think? Is this a sign of a changing political landscape in Bihar, or is it merely a family feud? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
