The Shards Series: Jordan Roth Joins the Cast! | FX & Ryan Murphy (2025)

Get ready, because FX's 'The Shards' is about to get even more intriguing! The highly anticipated drama series, a collaboration between FX and Ryan Murphy Productions, is adding a major player to its already impressive cast: the one and only Jordan Roth. But who will he play? That's the million-dollar question, as details about his role are being kept under wraps.

Roth, a Tony Award-winning producer, is no stranger to the spotlight. He's the creative director of ATG Entertainment and was the president of Jujamcyn Theaters for 15 years. His Broadway credits include the iconic 'Kinky Boots,' the mesmerizing 'Hadestown,' and the dazzling 'Moulin Rouge!,' among many others. He also produced the 2021 revival of 'Company.'

He joins a stellar cast that already includes Kaia Gerber, Igby Rigney, Homer Gere, Wes Bentley, Graham Campbell, and Hayes Warner. The series is based on Bret Easton Ellis' novel of the same name.

But here's where it gets controversial... The story, set in the early 1980s, delves into the world of Bret (played by Rigney), a student at an elite L.A. prep school. His life takes a dark turn with the arrival of a mysterious new student, Robert Mallory (played by Gere), coinciding with a series of murders committed by a serial killer. The novel itself has an interesting origin story: Ellis initially released 'The Shards' as a serialized audiobook via his podcast in 2020-21, with a print version following in 2023.

And this is the part most people miss... Before FX picked up the project, HBO had its sights set on adapting the novel. Ryan Murphy, known for his work on 'American Horror Story' and 'Glee,' began discussions with Ellis to develop the project under his Ryan Murphy Television, which is based at 20th TV. FX officially gave the show a series order in July.

Murphy is executive producing 'The Shards' alongside Ellis, Nick Hall, Kathleen McCaffrey, Brian Young, and director Max Winkler.

Roth's influence extends beyond the theater world. He's known for his collaborations with fashion designers, often showcased on his social media. Earlier this year, he debuted a performance piece titled 'Radical Acts of Unrelenting Beauty' at the Louvre. He is represented by UTA and attorney Jordan Manekin.
