Be warned: The Holiday Season is Coming, and So Are the Scams!
Tshwane residents, brace yourselves! As the festive season approaches, the police are warning of a surge in online scams targeting the community. Major-General Samuel Thine, the district police commissioner, has issued a stern warning about the prevalence of online robberies in Winterveld, where criminals advertise fake deals for items like Polos, trailers, mag rims, and ice-cream machines, only to rob unsuspecting victims.
But here's where it gets controversial... Some residents might be tempted by these seemingly cheap deals, but Thine advises caution. He emphasizes that these items are not available at such low prices in Winterveld, and communities should be vigilant and wary of anyone selling items from areas like Winterveld, Temba, and Rietgat.
And this is the part most people miss... While the police are cracking down on these scams, they're also addressing other concerns like ATM bombings, cash-in-transit heists, and illegal guns. During Operation Shanela, they've already made significant arrests, including 27 illegal immigrants, two drug dealers, and 111 suspects for gender-based violence and contact crimes.
So, what's the takeaway? Stay alert, especially when shopping online, and be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true. The police are working hard to keep us safe, but it's up to us to be vigilant and aware of potential scams. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
