Christian Science

“God the Preserver of Man” is the topic of the Christian Science Lesson Sermon for Sunday, December 12th. The Christian Science Society service begins at 10 am and will be held at the Civic Club, 105 S. Ashe St., South Pines.

The Society maintains a reading room at 173A NE Broad St. in Southern Pines, where there are useful articles on a range of topics, reports of healing accomplished through prayer alone, and resources for Bible study. Presbyterian Bethesda

Bethesda Presbyterian Church is located at 1002 N. Sandhills Blvd. (US 1), in Aberdeen.

“Bethesda Presbyterian Church invites all who are looking for a loving church family to pray with us,” a spokesperson said.

Sunday morning prayer is at 9 a.m. in the chapel. Morning Communion and breakfast are at 9:15 am Sunday school classes for all ages are at 9:45 am, followed by worship service at 11:00 am. If you have questions about church activities, call the church office at (910) 944-1319.

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was designed by Edward White Benson, later Archbishop of Canterbury, for Christmas Eve on December 24, 1880, and has been adapted and used by churches around the world. It allows for great flexibility and always celebrates the birth of Jesus from the fall of mankind, the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus in nine short reads from the Bible, interspersed with Christmas carols and hymns.

On December 12, Jonathan McDuffie will be the guest solo artist.

On December 19, Moore Brass will bring the season to life again during the morning worship service.

A Christmas Eve service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 24.

Community Bible study

Pinehurst’s Community Bible Study (CBS), a non-denominational Bible study, invites those interested to join a 30-week study on 1 & 2 Peter, Christian Living and Colossians. The class will meet on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., until May 3. Women and men of all ages are welcome. Related programs for children and youth are available for registered parents or guardians.

In addition, an online study for women will be offered on Wednesdays. Online courses will be led by a CBS trained facilitator on Zoom.

CBS’s mission is to make disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ in our communities through compassionate and in-depth Bible study, accessible to all. Each CBS study is authored by Bible scholars, based on the scriptures, and includes a three-part approach with personal study questions, a small group discussion, and a weekly teaching session.

Lutheran Saint Paul

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Whispering Pines has services at 9 a.m. every Sunday.

Due to the passing of Pastor Melms, we have visiting pastors and chaplains.

St. Paul Lutheran is located at 3253 Niagara-Carthage Road in Whispering Pines.

The village chapel

The village chapel offers in-person and live services. The village chapel is open for all Sunday services (8:15 am, 9:30 am and 11:00 am) every Sunday, with back-up procedures to minimize health risks. Sunday services are broadcast live and can be viewed at www.tvcpinehurst.com or to www.youtube.com/tvcpinehurst1/c/.

Holiday services are scheduled as follows: Sunday, December 19 at 10:30 am with Carolina Brass; Friday, December 24, Christmas Eve family service at 5 p.m. with children’s show and Christmas Eve communion service at 9 p.m. Saturday, December 25, Christmas Day service at 10 a.m. and Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, Sunday, December 26 at 10 a.m.

The village chapel will host “Dickens and his Christmas Carol, an original version of a timeless tale” from December 16 to 18 at 7 pm. Tickets are $ 20 each, children 12 and under are free. Tickets are available on TicketMeSandhills.com

The choir of the village chapel is open to singers from 16 years old. Rehearsals take place Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 pm The chapel choir conducts all musical elements during church services at 9:30 am and 11 am as well as special services throughout the year. The village chapel children’s choir meets on Sunday morning after the 9:30 am church service. The children present musical offerings in worship every month. At the moment, the face covering is mandatory for everyone participating in the children’s choir. Inquiries should be directed to Deborah Holden at [email protected]

The youth group meets on Sunday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Care Cottage (55 Community Road), with the exception of the first Sunday of each month.

Prayer of Centering and Lectio Divina “Sacred Reading” meets in the sanctuary every Monday at noon, led by Pastor John.

The Thursday Men’s Fellowship Bible Study, led by Pastor Ashley, meets at 4 p.m. at Care Cottage and will study the book of 1 Samuel.

Pastor John’s CS Lewis class takes place on Fridays at 10 a.m. at Chapel Hall.

A prayer service with communion and homily takes place every Thursday in the sanctuary at 10 a.m.

Living Nativity

The Yates-Thagard Baptist Church offers the community a free live Nativity drama on Saturday, December 11 and Sunday, December 12, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“This is a seven-round / over 30-minute virtual tour experience designed to immerse you in the story of the birth of Jesus Christ,” a spokesperson said.

The church is located at 3820 Vass Carthage Road, Carthage.

Nativity at the wheel

The First Baptist Church in Pinehurst will hold the Nativity of Bethlehem in the Pines from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday December 19 and Wednesday December 22. The church is located at NC 211 West, opposite the entrance to Pinewild Country Club.
