Dunhuang frescoes debut in Chongqing for the first time

The “Temple of Buddhism, Silk Road and Yangtze River – Dunhuang Frescoes” exhibition was held at the China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing on Thursday. This is the first time that Dunhuang frescoes have been exhibited in Chongqing.

The exhibition used modern digital technology to reproduce frescoes with great fidelity, selected 33 representative frescoes from the Southern and Northern Dynasties (220? 589) of Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Guazhou Yulin Caves. The themes included Buddhist stories, Buddhist statues, flying apsaras, a caisson model, etc.

Organized by Dunhuang Academy, China Dunhuang Grottoes Conservation Research Foundation, China Three Gorges Museum, Chongqing Publicity and Culture Development Foundation, the free exhibition will run until August 15, 2021.
