The SDM College of Ayurveda in Hassan has acquired an anatomy table, a 3D virtual dissection unit, to teach anatomy to students. The facility will be inaugurated by D. Veerendra Heggade, Chancellor of SW University, on July 9.

Dr. Prasanna N. Rao, principal of the college, told the media that the anatomy table is essential for teaching human anatomy to medical students. The table costs around ₹3 crore. It would contain 3D images of different corpses of various health issues. “The painting is such that by clicking on the screen, you can go deeper into the body, layer by layer, to understand its structure and functioning. We bought the unit in order to give a modern touch to the study of Ayurveda,” he said.

The unit would serve as a study tool, but would not replace the dissection of real cadavers in medical schools. “Students will continue to dissect bodies. However, this tool offers them the opportunity to understand the status of human beings with different medical conditions,” he said.
