Vijaywada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], September 1 (ANI): Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) of Vijayawada on Tuesday filed a complaint against the vandalism of the idols of Goddess Kanaka Durga and Shiva Lingam at Punnami Ghat on the banks of the Krishna River.
VHP leaders said that some unidentified disbelievers demolished the idols on Janmashtami night, that is, August 30.
A complaint was lodged by VHP leaders and activists at Bhavanipuram Police Station and they also called on Vijaywada Police Commissioner (PC) B Sreenivasulu to take immediate action in the matter.
The plaintiffs said there were CCTV cameras near the ghat and asked the police to check the CCTV footage, catch the culprits and severely punish such incidents not to happen again.
Speaking to ANI, Vijaywada VHP President Sana Srinivas said that all religious organizations like Bajrang Dal and Hindu Chaitanya Vedika condemn this incident.
“Vijaywada has 90 percent Hindu population. Such an attack on Hindus and their gods and goddesses here is extremely worrying. We called on the CP to arrest the disbelievers as soon as possible,” he added.
Hindu organizations suspect a plot in the incident. They recalled that a heckling had taken place a few months ago when Christians tried to convert Hindus to their religion in the same place. (ANI)
