Gurulingaswamy Holimath, 46, media coordinator to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, died after collapsing while training at a gym on the morning of August 22.

Family sources said he complained of severe chest pain during training and collapsed. “He had to suffer a serious heart attack. We rushed him to a nearby private hospital in Nagarbhavi. However, doctors said he was brought back dead,” a close family associate said.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

He began his career as a journalist with Kannada Prabhaand has since worked for various media organizations in Hubballi and Bengaluru including Vijaya Karnataka, TV5 and VTE. He has worked with Mr. Bommai since the latter became Minister of the Interior.

Her last rites would take place at Ramdurg in Belagavi district at 10 a.m. on August 23.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, President Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri, former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and several ministers offered their condolences on the passing of Mr. Gurulingaswamy.
