The representation of women in the Top 100 companies continues to increase and the pandemic has not interfered even slightly with this trend. According to the latest report published by Working Mother and Avtar Best Companies for Women in India (BCWI), women represent 34.5%, an increase of 0.5% compared to 2020. In 2016, when the study was launched, the representation of women was 25%. . During the intervening years, the increase has been gradual but constant.

The representation of women in leadership positions has seen a similar increase, from 19% in 2016 to 25.4% in the sixth edition.

Speaking at the launch of the report, Saundarya Rajesh, founding president of Avtar, said COVID-19 had been difficult for women especially with many downsizing, but our results showed there was companies that continually increased their diversity, equity and inclusion. bar (DEI). More than 70% of top companies reported an increase in their DCI spending, with an increasing representation of women and other under-represented groups in leadership and management positions, she added.

In terms of managerial positions in IT / ITeS sectors, the representation of women increased from 14% in 2020 to 18% in 2021. A similar trend was observed in FMCGs and manufacturing companies from 15% and 5% in 2020 to 19% and 9% in 2021 respectively.

Saundarya noted that BFSI (15%) and Pharma (18%) noticed a decrease in the representation of women in management positions compared to the previous edition where they stood at 18% and 22% respectively.

Emphasizing the need for inclusive leadership and a history of the DCI journey, Saundarya said that 95% of companies have built their KPIs / KRAs on diversity, equity and inclusion for their people managers at all times. levels.

Results show that with the goal of creating a gender diverse leadership pipeline, 88% of top companies offer executive coaching programs, up from 81% in 2020; 100% offer professional development programs, up from 98% in 2020; 75% of them advocate and promote a culture of male alliance, against 73% in 2020.

The maternity retention rate among female employees has also increased steadily in the top 100 companies, which is 96% in 2021 compared to 91% in 2020.

Responding to a question on what would help more Indian companies reach the top 100, Saundarya said the government needs to offer some sort of incentive for MSMEs; and senior leaders should be role models for others.

Top 10 Companies of 2021 listed in alphabetical order include: Accenture Solutions Pvt Ltd, Citi India, Deloitte India, Deutsche Bank Group, EY, Genpact India Pvt. Ltd., IBM India Private Limited, Infosys Limited, Mastercard Incorporated and ZS Associates India Pvt. Ltd.

The Most Inclusive Companies Index 2021, for which 174 companies applied, showcasing their inclusion efforts related to gender, culture, people with disabilities and the LGBTQ community, includes the following companies: Accenture Solutions Private Ltd. , Citi India, Cushman & Wakefield India Pvt.
