Tamil Nadu Minister V. Senthil Balaji’s Twitter account was briefly hacked on Sunday when it displayed a different display name and asked people to use cryptocurrencies.

The account of the Minister of Electricity, Prohibition and Excise has over two million subscribers and was restored later that day.

TRB Rajaa, the DMK MP and son of veteran party leader and DMK MP TR Baalu, said, “Minister Senthil Balaji’s personal Twitter account has been hacked allegedly using malware. “We have written to @twitterIndia about this and hope the issue will be resolved as soon as possible,” he said in a tweet.

“And he’s back,” Mr Rajaa said, the minister’s account reinstated.

Mr. Rajaa shared the response received from Twitter that “the password reset link was sent to the user’s preferred email address. He should be able to regain access to the account from there. “. Meanwhile, the minister clarified the incident and thanked those involved in restoring his account.

“Dear all, my Twitter account is now correct and restored. Thank you for your concern and support. Many thanks to the national cybercrime wing, Twitter officials and everyone else,” Mr. Balaji said.

Several of Mr. Balaji’s supporters have expressed concern over the hack and have thrown their support behind him.
