Religious processions mark Hindu New Year in Steel City | Ranchi News

Jamshedpur: More than six Hindu outfits staged colorful processions here on Friday to usher in the Hindu New Year on Friday.
The processions, which came out from two different parts of the city, culminated at Subhash Maidan (Aam bagan) in Sakchi. Starting with conch blowing and special prayers, maha aarti was offered to the idols of Lord Hanuman and Bharat Mata at the Golmuri cricket ground, before the start of the procession, which was organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). To the rhythm of drums and chants of Jai Shri Ram and Bharat Mata ki Jai, the crowd crossed the road from Kali Mati to Sakchi while moving towards the final destination point. At the other end, the Ram Babu Tiwari faction of Hindu Utsav Samiti staged another procession from the grounds of MGM Medical College.
“A crowd of around 50,000 people participated in the procession. The program would have been grander if the government had lifted the restrictions,” said Hindu leader Utsav Samiti, Arun Singh.
State Health Minister Banna Gupta and MPP Saryu Roy were among the public officials who participated in the processions.
Keeping tabs on the motorcade through CCTV cameras and drone cameras, security forces and civil administration officials were also alerted as Friday witnessed the rush of Muslim worshipers, who offered Friday namaz in mosques before the start of the holy month of Ramzan.
“The festival period always sees increased police deployment and surveillance. The social media network will also be scanned,” Tamil Vanan said.
